How was your journey to your first job?

Since I had a few years of work experience under my belt before I did my MSc, it helped in positioning myself. While I am from India, I returned to UK after completing my course to get some International work experience. It was not easy initially but I eventually joined IBM and was part of their “Transport for London” project for a few months. Good opportunities were hard to come by since UK was in recession and I eventually decided to return back to India.

How does your job role look today?

As part of Global Transitions and Transformation team within HP, I am accountable for the delivery of entire transition solution which involves creating and deploying project plan, planning of transition costing, identify and work with key stakeholders of both internal and customer organization, manage risks and deliver to the agreed scope of the program. These projects vary in complexity spanning across multiple countries and multiple service lines like Finance & Accounting and Human Resources.

How come you chose the MSPME program?

Having worked as a Project Manager for 4 years and PMP certified, I was convinced that Project Management was my calling. And when I saw the course content for MSc in Strategic Project Management I knew this was a perfect alignment to my career aspiration.

What advice would you give students who study today?

Each university in this participating program have their own strengths and it would serve you try to leverage from it. For instance, there is no better place to do research than Umea University since the depth and the access that they provide is unmatched. Make the most of these opportunities and do not get caught up too much in grades. And most importantly, build and nourish your network that you have made by making friends who are from different parts of the globe. You will be amazed how it broadens your horizons.
